Boxes are not all created equal

Spend a little more on sturdy ones, don't overpack them past the point where you can comfortably lift them, and always wrap breakables individually rather than just tossing them in together and hoping for the best. Label the sides of the boxes, not just the top when they're stacked, the top label does you no good.

One thing almost nobody thinks of until it's too late: pack a separate bag with the stuff you'll need the second you walk into the new place. Toothbrush, phone charger, a change of clothes, any medication. You do not want to be cutting open taped boxes at midnight looking for your toothbrush.
